BrainRoll: Focus Arena just got better. Meet Close the Brainrot

By Vaibhav

BrainRoll: Close the BrainRot

A new BrainRoll setting that shuts down supported social apps when you open Reels, Shorts and other short video feeds.

You know how this goes.

You open Instagram to reply to one message. You check it. Then you tap Reels.

Twenty minutes later you are still there.

The same thing happens with YouTube Shorts and other short video feeds. You don't always plan to watch them. You just end up there.

That is exactly the problem BrainRoll is trying to solve.

BrainRoll already gives you a place to build focus and keep track of your progress. Now it can step in when you actually open the thing that usually breaks that focus.

Meet Close the Brainrot.

How it works?

So what does 'Close the Brainrot' do?

You turn on Auto close Brainrot from BrainRoll settings.

After that you can use supported apps normally. Nothing happens while you browse the regular parts of the app.

But open the Reels tab on Instagram and BrainRoll steps in.

The app gets closed.

The same idea works with Shorts and other supported short video feeds.

You don't need to rely on willpower every time. BrainRoll puts a hard stop between you and the feed you were trying to avoid.

Turn it on from Settings

How to turn this feature on?

There isn't much to set up.

Open BrainRoll and go to Settings. Find Auto close Brainrot and turn it on.

That's it.

You can keep using the supported app normally. BrainRoll only steps in when you reach the short video section you want to stay away from.

We didn't want another screen time warning

There are already plenty of screen time reminders.

You get a notification. You dismiss it. Then you keep scrolling.

We wanted BrainRoll to do something more direct.

If you have decided that Reels or Shorts are messing with your focus then a reminder is not always enough. Sometimes the easiest way to stop is to remove the feed from the equation.

That's what Close the Brainrot is for.

It isn't trying to decide how you should use your phone. You choose the apps and the feature gives you a way to put a wall in front of the part you don't want to open.

It works where the brainrot usually starts

Close the Brainrot is built around short video feeds.

That includes Reels on Instagram and Shorts on YouTube along with other supported apps like Reddit, X, Snapchat, Facebook, TikTok.

The list can change as BrainRoll gets better. If an app is supported then BrainRoll watches for the short video section and closes the app when you enter it.

And your Focus Arena is still there

Close the Brainrot is one more tool inside BrainRoll.

The main idea of Focus Arena stays the same: give yourself a place to focus and see how you're doing.

Now you can also make the biggest distractions harder to reach.

So when you start a focus session you don't have to keep making the same decision every few minutes.

"Should I check Reels?"

Nope.

Back to the task.
